All,
Whenever possible, it would be helpful to have boats hail the RC at the finish, or shortly after, with their boat name and the fleet they sailed in. Thursday night RC's do not have a scratch sheet to know who sailed in which fleet. So at the end it can be confusing.
No need to make a big production out of it, especially if you finish right next to RC and you boat has the name on the side in big letters....
Thanks.

as one who ran the thursday races for almost 10 years,in my humble opinion all these changes to a event that basically runs itself with a terrific turnout are going to screw it up...the club's best attended activities like the cookouts and port jeff are the least complicated.

Jonathan,
Welcome. I pretty much agree with you. However there are several people who are regulars on Thursday nights that want it to be a scored, competitive, formal series.
We are trying to balance the two viewpoints, mostly leaning toward the simpler format. I'd like to see the folks that like it simple to get on here and say so. That way we don't orient things to the few with the loudest 'voices'.
But lots of people like to see the order of finish (not necessarily scores) so we like to provide a record of where they came in. This was listed in the newspaper years ago.
Since there is no scratch sheet (and we don't intend to make one), having any boat that cares announce who they are and when they started helps the RC to list them.
It's not required.

I'd still like to see it go one step farther. Recording the finish times lets people who DO care find out how they really did. The people who DON'T care can simply continue not caring. Bravo to whoever did the recording on race 2. It helped the new people on my boat understand how a HANDICAP fleet works. I do my part to get new sailors on the course as well. I had 10 people on the boat, 2 of which had never been sailing. That being said, the way I see it is that nothing really needs to change. Committee occasionally records times and thats fine. Nothing additional is REQUIRED of the participants and thats fine too. Do I like having my small cruiser being rated one design against a melges32? Not so much. The occasional REAL scores are nice to see so lets not discourage it.

why don't the few regulars who want a formal scored series step up and do it themselves?they could start x amount of time after the last start using the same line and keep their own times.if they are who i think they are most of them never volunteer for anything..let them try...then they can moan and groan about things amongst themselves.
