I see there is a doublehanded class this year. I like that. I wonder how that fits in with the ECSA with points and all. I guess they just score the boats as usual. I also saw that I was signed up for it. My entry is going in today. Hmm. Let's hope our usual out of town suspects show and there is no confusion. We need to get this race back on the map. It's the best race of the season, wind willing.

On second thought I may bag this one if there is no B fleet.

It appears the currently posted scratch sheet for the race is incomplete and may contain some faulty information. I'll contact Steve and ask that he look into it. There absolutely IS a "B" fleet (I entered Non Spinnaker yesterday and we aren't listed yet, and I'm pretty sure a few other boats are entered non-spin also) - this year they've designed a shorter course for the Non-Spinnaker class, about 33 miles, along with the standard 55-mile course for the spin fleet. Take a look at the revised Sailing Instructions here (2 pages): windjammers.org/OverNight2007_SI.pdf

From the entry list it's a match race between Spirit and Anneliese.

Hey all -
There is a serious error in the sailing instructions (bold emphasis mine):
8. Time Limit Yachts not finished by 5 p.m. Sunday, July 30th, 2006 will be designated DNF (Did Not Finish). This modifies RRS Rule 35.
Basically, all boats should be scored DNF in this race before starting. Talk about foregone conclusions!

Good point! July 30th 2006 was a fine day in history, I'm sure. But I think the finishing deadline intended on this year's sailing instructions is 5PM Sunday July 29th, 2007.

The list on the web site is "entries" only. There are probably a few that were mailed in and I haven't received them yet. Scratch sheet will be determined by PHRF ratings and number on entries ..... section 14.2 of SI's.

Going upwind to middleground, nice. Round, hoist, good speed for 5 minutes, then stop. Lobster pot beat us boat for boat for 20 minutes then off we go upwind (?) again. tack upwind for a while then stop. Tack upwind again then stop. ETA to falkners 8:00 PM tuesday. VMG minus 2 tenths. Bloody he!!. Chase zephers to faulkners B10 and hoist. Then stop. Do figure eights for a while, drifting around yelling at each other, thought about having boxing matches, then a little breeze fills in, jib up, and we round that bloody stinking evil green can. Kite up, jib up etc for a while then kite to around pond. The gulf looking flat. The breeze holds up enough to get to the R/C and finish. We had enough food and water for a month. Thought we would starve to death. I'll be back next year.

The wild thing is that after all that time, the top 4 were within 15 minutes on corrected time. We should have anchored by that lobster pot.
