Jim,
Fleet Captain Steve Hackett emailed me and mentioned that there would probably be a Race Committee Spring meeting, similar to what we did last year. Skippers should plan to get together that night and be prepared to discuss any changes they'd like to see.
I'll post details as soon as I get them.
(only 9 more weeks 'til Thursday racing begins!)

just read the thread about splitting the fleet into PHFR and spinnaker from last year. Great to read that there is so much discontent.... I race in City Island (ebyra.com) which has three PHRF classes with spinnaker, one one-design j-24 class, and two PHRF non-spinnaker classes. Faster boats start first , non spinnkaer last. I 'm sure Milford could make a smaller version of that one. You will at least see me more often if the racing is a little bit more colourful (spinnakers)... ps. found this forum through sailing full tilt, why is it not on the windjammers website??

The officers haven't made any changes about how the Thursday races will be run as far as I know, but I'm sure we'll get an update by the Spring Social on May 5th. It all depends on what they decide. I'll post any changes in the racing format on this forum.
There is a link currently at the bottom of the front page on the Windjammers website, but it's not obvious to most visitors. Hopefully they'll ask somebody who's interested in updating the web site frequently (waving and pointing to myself!) and the site will be more dynamic.

Class splits have been changed to 29 and under then 30 and over. Small fast boats are encouraged to go with the big boats. Etchells can have their own starts and fly kites the way I read it, IF they have their own starts. I would definately encourage this if I were the etchells fleet captain. Too good an opportunity to miss. Also marks D, E and W are to be passed to seaward unless used as a turning mark. No more Shock Rock. I see all this as a nice improvement and good on the admins of such things for doing it. I would start the etchells first as they have no lights.

Just to answer a couple of comments and questions:
Stefan, Watch for GrandPrix nights on the Thursday night schedule. Usually the Thursday before a weekend spinnaker race. We will not be expanding the spinnaker racing to other Thursday nights.
The object of WSC Thursdays is to provide a casual low-key racing environment for all, especially new racers. We have to do this or risk the decline of the weekend fleets because new boats are to afraid to try racing at that level. Also the courses are so short that there is a safety risk associated with spinnaker boats.
Generally the discontent has been from experienced racers who want a hard-core, official weeknight series similar to other LIS fleets. That is outside our mission and we have found most people like the current format. We invite the more serious folks to participate in the weekend racing.
All: We start the small boats first and 'special' fleets like Women At The Helm and E22 or GP fleets last. The reason being 1) it clears the starting area of less-competitive boats and 2) there are many boats in non-spinnaker classes that have no idea of the racing rules, flag sequence or start timing. They just go when other boats their size go. The small boats have always gone first and changing the start order confuses many and creates a dangerous situation.
Jim: Point taken about the E22's but the above start sequence issues apply. Maybe they could use battery-operated lights like for inflatables just to be legal at the end of the season when darkness is a problem. Also, your restatement of the general changes was spot on -- and thanks.
